There was lots going on with Rach’s three older kids during her maternity session - everyone wanted to be snuggled close to mum. I think Nellie showing me her baby bump might be my favourite one of all. To see more of this beautiful family click here.

Cat and Marissa

Little Marissa was so exuberant and outgoing. She was keen to show me the nursery for the baby that was on the way. to show me her room, to show me the backyard. But when she had a fall and hurt herself, all she wanted was to be close by her mummy’s side. To see more of their session click here.

Liz and Leni

Leni was all dressed up in her special dress for her mummy’s maternity photos, but when I arrived she decided it was time to wear her Little Red Riding Hood dress instead. Lucky for me mum Liz and dad Dean are super laid back and let Leni take the lead. She rocked that dress all day. To see more of their session click here.

Short n sweet... with newborn baby Henry

Central Coast Newborn Photographer

Someone forgot to tell Henry Wilbow how a newborn baby is supposed to behave. This precious little soul is not your average, sleepy newborn. He is bright eyed and super alert watching everyone around him with knowing eyes. He is super strong, lifting his head to scan the room for his big sister and throwing himself around in his daddy’s arms to see what is going on. It’ll be no time at all before this little man is up and after chasing Leni.

Beautiful Henry is so very loved. His big sister Leni dotes on him. She spent lots of time kissing his hands, playing with his toes and checking out his belly button - because they sure a funny looking on a newborn!

I feel so privileged to be able to photograph the Wilbow’s journey with Henry - from gorgeous baby bump in his mummy’s tummy to much loved baby brother.

How to prepare for a newborn photography session (for those who are sleep deprived)

Central Coast Newborn Photographer

natural photos of newborn baby copacabana nsw

Newborn photography sessions are my favourite sessions to be part of. Everyone’s emotions are so raw and their love for this wee baby is so big. I am so honoured to be invited into a families home as they find their feet with a new baby.

Newborns have this amazing ability to totally throw your world upside down. You are totally enraptured by these awesome creatures who take up 100% of your focus and attention.

Which is cool. It’s how it should be.

Until you think about inviting a stranger into your home to take photos of you and your munchkin. Then the anxiety might start to build - you haven’t had more than 3 hours of unbroken sleep in god knows how long. The house looks like a bomb went off and showering may not have been at the top of your priority list in the last 24 hours.

It’s cool. I get it. I’ve been there too. My delightful children would wake every 40 minutes as babies (true story - I plan on getting them back as teenagers!).

Don’t stress if things aren’t perfect. Life is not perfect. Fortunately my focus is only going to be on your new baby, not the state of your home. Just run a brush through your hair, put on some relatively clean clothes and get ready for some snuggle time with your little bundle.

Want a few more tips for preparing for a newborn photography session? Here’s my recommendations….

newborn photography central coast

1.      Make your bed

Sounds too simple, I know. Here’s the thing, snuggling up on your bed is a great place to have photos with your little bundle of joy. Even if the rest of your house is in turmoil, having a clean bed will make a perfect space for a calm and relaxed photo opportunity. Plus anytime you get to lie down is a good thing, right?

2.      Wear something you are comfortable in

You want to look good for your photo session, that’s totally understandable. Remember though, we’re just hanging at home, so your outfit should reflect that. I can almost guarantee that bub will want a feed while I’m there, so make sure you feel comfortable doing so when you make your clothing choices. Avoid large logos or clothing with big writing. Neutral and light colours are good options as they won’t detract from the natural beauty of your baby. You can add colour with jewellery or accessories.

in home newborn baby photos avoca beach nsw

3.      Open the blinds and let in natural light

As a natural light photographer, I love curtains open, blinds up and lots of natural light pouring. The more natural light you let into your home, the more options we have for photo opportunities. Don’t stress if it’s dark or overcast and hold off on using artificial lights (fluro lights are not a photographers friend!), I can work wonders with any available natural light.

That’s it.

Too easy huh?

If you want to book a relaxed newborn photography session in your home on the Central Coast you can do that here.

Short n sweet... with newborn baby Remi

Central Coast Newborn Photographer

I arrived to this quiet, peaceful home to find everyone having down time. Newborn baby Remi was so relaxed. She was sleeping when I got there and didn’t fuss when she was brought out to be part of the session. Big sister Ava was having quiet time after a big night at the Taylor Swift concert. So jealous - can’t believe this six year old has been to see Tay Tay and I haven’t managed it yet.

Lucky for us Ava was still in a good mood. This kid has character plus. She is so bold and sassy. Not at all backwards in coming forwards, Ava had us all in stitches. This first born certainly rules the roost. Apparently when Ava found out she was going to be a big sister, she was NOT impressed. She was not interested in having a baby in her home. And she was not afraid to let her mum and dad know. Fortunately, the big sister role has grown on Ava, baby Remi isn’t so bad after all. Ava was very keen to show me baby Remi’s toys, her beautiful nursery, to cuddle with her baby sister either on the couch or in her cot.

There’s a mad footy rivalry in this household. The girls are die hard Souths fans. Dad is the lone Rooster. So of course we had to get the obligatory jersey shot of Ava and her daddy. I may have heard mention that baby Remi has her own jersey too…much to dad’s disgust.

This family was so relaxed throughout the session, they laughed easily and readily, happy in their beautifully renovated home together.

Short n sweet with... newborn baby George

Newborn Baby Photographer Sydney

There’s just something about a newborn baby with a gorgeous full head of dark hair that just makes you want to sit and play with their fluffy, wispy hair all day long. Dear little George has himself the most endearing Alfalfa hair - sticking up on end and making him all the more cuter for it. This little guy was so alert, he watched everything that was happening, just soaking it all in. Not only that, he was super strong, we kept laughing as he threw his head around, pushing off his daddy’s chest and rearranging himself to get a better view of what was going on. Then there was the talking. George kept up the cutest baby talk the whole time I was there. I reckon this is one seriously intelligent child that Aimee and Con have on their hands.

Aimee and Con have worked long and hard to get into their dream home, a mission that was three years in the making. Travelling to Sydney to do their in home newborn session was a no-brainer for me. It was beautiful to spend time with them in their amazing home.

Spencer the dog was on guard the whole time - he was quick to bark at anyone or anything he thought was a threat to his little family. Spencer stayed close by George throughout the session, keeping a watchful eye on me and my camera. George wasn’t bothered at all, he was relaxed and chilled the whole time.

Con obviously adores his son. He was attentive and hands on, talking constantly to his little man. Con has more than happily offered to be a stay at home dad, but Aimee is pretty happy in her role as mum and is no hurry to hand over the stay at home role to Con. Aimee was so relaxed with her baby boy, talking gently and reassuringly throughout the time I was there. This beautiful family were so content together - it was a special time for me to witness and document for them.

Short n sweet with... newborn baby Keelan

There is something about being greeted at the front door of a families home by two big boofy dogs that instantly puts me at ease. Having their woofers in the house and wandering around says so much to me about the family. The fact that they are relaxed animal lovers that include their pets in their day to day life builds lets me know I'm hanging with my kind of people. And boy have these dogs embraced the newest member of the family.

Lauren noticed a change in her dogs as soon as she fell pregnant. The dogs used to sleep downstairs in the lounge room, but once she a had a baby on the way, Lauren had a furry shadow by her side throughout the night to keep an eye on her. Now that little baby Keelan has arrived the dogs have maintained their shadow status, happy to be close by him day or night. The dogs hung around during our session, keen to be with the newest member of the family. Their cat, however, was such a typical cat, totally uninterested in what we were doing and haughtily stalked away from the fuss.

Lauren and Bryce have done the most amazing renovations on their home. Their space was light, bright and airy - they've built their dream home up and around their old beach side fibro house. The gorgeous window light made for beautiful photos in every room of the house.

Keelan did the newborn baby thing - he fed, alot then he slept, alot. He was happiest in his mummy's arms, with his head nestled close to her heart. Lauren and Bryce were so relaxed in their status as new parents. They took everything in their stride, happy to follow Keelan's lead, just quietly and gently meeting his needs.

I was grateful to spend time with this chilled out, loving little family.

Father's Day 2018

Central Coast Family Photographer

To celebrate Father's Day this year I thought I'd look back over my sessions from the past 12 months to pick out my favourite daddy photos.

Here they are in no particular order....

Brendon and Hunter

newborn photography central coast nsw father and son

Brendon holding newborn baby Hunter has become one of my iconic images for the year. Seeing daddy's big, strong hands tenderly holding his newborn son - be still my beating ovaries. To check out the rest of this newborn session just click here

Dave and Charlie Rose

newborn baby girl cradled in daddy's arms

Did I mention I'm a sucker for a baby cradled in her daddy's arms? Charlie Rose had her first unsettled night before our photo session so when I arrived daddy Dave was still helping everyone get ready. He made his beautiful wife brekky, helped with burbing and changing Charlie Rose and just generally went about keeping things calm and peaceful. Here's to the dad's that keep things running smoothly while mum is stuck in the seemingly never ending cycle of feeding a hungry hungry baby. To see more of Dave and Charlie Rose click here.

Darren and Elsie

daddy holding toddler family photography kincumber

Darren is one busy daddy. This seemingly quiet and peaceful image is hiding the chaos and joy of his three other wild ones running amok at Kincumba Mountain. I absolutely love photographing the madness of big families, but my favourite thing to do is find those moments of calm and stillness in mayhem. To see more of Darren and his beautiful family click here

Mat and Jack

relaxed family photos central coast nsw

This one is such a sentimental favourite. Dad Mat is in the background, holding his son Jack and laughing with his Nanny Nola. Sweet Nanny Nola passed away just five days later. Here's to the dad's that hold their family close and appreciate every special moment together. To see more of their session click here.

Lee and Leni

little girl cuddling with daddy copacabana nsw

Leni took a moment out of the chaos of her 3rd birthday to come and snuggle quietly with her daddy. Again, in the mayhem of a preschooler's birthday party, it's the moment of quiet connection that I gravitate to.

Kain and Abbie

natural family photos central coast nsw

Gorgeous Abbie, full of sass, is just her daddy's girl. I know she's doing it tough at the moment with her daddy away with the army. Here's to the dads that don't get to be with their kids every day, but when they are together, they hold them close and let them know they are loved no matter where they are in the world.

Sean and Oscar

newborn baby photography long jetty nsw

Sean gazing adoringly at newborn baby Oscar is another of my favourites for the year. Sean was happy sitting around and snuggling with his newest child, but when baby Oscar's big sister Eli came looking for attention, Sean was just as keen to jump and play on the scooter with her or push her on the swing. I love seeing dads who embrace all the phases of childhood with their kids. To see more of Sean and Oscar's newborn baby session click here.

This little munchkin skipped her nap at preschool and was not a happy camper at the beginning of our session. Luckily, cuddles with daddy helped to brighten her up again. Here's to the dads that can bring a smile to the face of their child. To see more of their session, click here

Andrew and Sienna

Newborn baby photos Bensville NSW

Little Sienna all chubby and squishy, held safely in daddy Andrew's big strong hands. Andrew had preempted that I'd want to get some nuddie shots of his baby girl so he had the heater cranked up on this cold winter's day. Here's to the dads that know what their kids need. TO see more of their session, click here.

Josh and Sonny

central coast family photography katy allen photography-5709.jpg

Dad Josh was happy to hang with baby Sonny during our session. He just went gently along behind mum Ashley as their toddler Finn led the way on an adventure round the lake. Here's to the dad's that let their kids take the lead. To see more of their session click here.

Rhys and Sienna

newborn baby photographer woy woy nsw

Rhys was so calm during our session together. He was relaxed hanging with his newborn baby girl Sienna, but his was also very conscious of the fact that his eldest son Frankie was desperate to get outside to kick the soccer ball with him. Here's to the dad's that are able to help their children develop patience (without losing their own!). To see more of their session, click here.

Brad, Chase and Tyler

cowboy birthday party kincumber nsw

Brad and his family came back to the Central Coast to celebrate his son's 9th birthday party. They are currently travelling around Australia seeing all that our amazing country has to offer. Here's to the dad's that are brave enough to chase their dreams, showing their children that they can do the same.

Andrew and Parker

underwater photography beach central coast nsw

Daddy Andrew was just so easy going during our session. He was happy to jump in the water with kids so Parker could go body boarding and Nina could have a swim. Here's to the dads that enjoy play just as much as their kids do. To see more of their session click here.

Dave and family

teenage photography central coast nsw

Dad Dave, pictured in the centre, is facing major changes in his life. His children are leaving home and our session was a last get together before everyone went in their own directions. This one is for the dads that can take comfort knowing that they have put in the ground work to help their children develop into confident, respectful adults. To see more of their session click here.

Chris, Tyler and Kaden

central coast family photographer wamberal nsw

These little guys were two bundles of energy during our family photography session at Wamberal. Daddy Chris was more than happy to help them burn energy. He chased them up and down sand dunes. He acted as a speed hump for the boys to jump over as they ran down the sand dunes again. He laughed when the boys had an impromptu swim and kept his calm when a certain photographer suggested the boys use daddy't t-shirt as a towel and then they proceeded to get in the shirt together, ruining the t-shirt. (ah...sorry Chris!!!). Here's to the dad's that know that boys will be boys. To see more of their session click here.

Bryce and Keelan

newborn photography central coast Katy Allen Photography-2196.jpg

This is the newest daddy I've photographed this year. Bryce is obviously loving his new role as a dad, keen to help his Lauren with burping, changing and burrito rapping newborn baby Keelan. Here's to the dad's that whole heartedly embrace this new role is their life.

Paul and Malachi

father and son fishing avoca beach

My favourite dad photo of the year is this one. A little biased? Yeah, maybe. But seeing Paul take Mal out to do what he loves most just makes my heart happy. Here's to the dad's that spend their fishing session baiting hooks and untangling lines, just to see the smile on their little ones faces when they finally land a whopper.

Happy Father's Day to all these awesome dad's. We are grateful for everything you do for our families.

Short n sweet with... newborn baby Teagan

Documentary Newborn Photography, Central Coast, NSW

I got to photograph this sweet little pea when she was just a big old bump in her mummies tummy, so I was very excited to have the chance to come round and meet her last week.

Teagan is as cute as a button. She was fast asleep in the car when I arrived, so her mummy Rachel and I just hung out for a bit before baby Teagan decided she was ready to be fed. As the youngest of four children, Teagan is probably Rachel's last baby and so breastfeeding, snuggling, wrapping up for sleep... these moments are all that little bit more poignant for Rach and being able to document this for her was an honour.

Rach pulled out baby clothes that she had worn as a newborn herself, so it is was extra special to photograph Teagan wearing her mummies clothes. She also had so many cute gifts given to her including an adorable checked bonnet.

As Rach's family is in Canada, photography is a great way of being able to share these moments with her family overseas.

Looking forward to our next session together when Teagan's big brother and sisters will be there to join in the fun.

Short n sweet... with Sienna, Frankie, Sam and Rhys

 Central Coast Documentary Newborn Photography

I was fortunate to to cross paths with this lovely family when they were given a gift certificate for a newborn photography session as a baby shower gift. Big brother Frankie was all dressed up for the occasion, spunky hair and all. He was very relaxed, cuddling his baby sister, content to chill out on the couch.... until she got too heavy... and then all he wanted to do was kick the soccer ball outside with dad. Lucky for me Frankie was very patient while I grabbed a few daddy and daughter pictures. Sienna had the most gorgeous full head of dark hair, she looked like a little doll.

Sienna was actually the sleepiest, most well behaved newborn baby I've ever photographed. She'd just finished a feed before I arrived and the little doll slept soundly as she was passed around between her big brother, her mum and her dad, getting lots of love along the way. This precious girl only woke up when it was time for a nappy change.

I love capturing all the little details that make up a new born baby... wispy hair, teenie tiny toes and those beautiful fat rolls on their legs.  Little Sienna was the perfect model for me.
