When is the best time to book a newborn photography session?
Newborn Photographer Central Coast
Deciding when to book in for your newborn photography session can be tricky. Do you book in before your due date and hope that bub doesn’t go over? Do you wait until bub arrives and then hope that your photographer has an opening for you? What if bub is unsettled and doesn’t like lying down? Can you still get beautiful photos if bub is held the whole time? Do you need to do the session before bub is 10 days old? What happens if you miss the “newborn” window?
Here’s the thing… with my style of photography you can book bub in at any time and we will capture gorgeous images. It doesn’t matter if they are 2 days, 2 weeks or 2 months. Those early days will pass by in a blur. While you probably feel like a red hot mess, your little one is growing everyday. I know you are probably worried about the rings under your eyes and your mummy tummy, but I guarantee you, when you look back on your newborn photos in 10 years time, all you will feel is love and wonder.
There are a few things to consider when booking in your newborn photos. Here’s my top tips for booking your newborn photography session…
Make contact with your photographer before your due date
You don’t actually need to lock in a date at this point in time, but it does help if I have a rough idea of when you are due. I recommend giving me a call two months before your due date. It means I can keep a session free for you, without having to pin you down to an exact date.
2. Newborn detail photographs are best done before bub is 10 days old
For those magical macro shots of bubs precious newborn details, you are best to do the photo session before bub is 10 days old. This is because bub is still very sleepy during those first 10 days. So if you are after the close ups of bubs luscious lips, teenie tiny toes and chubby cheeks, book in early. Give me a call once bub arrives so we can make it happen. Lucky for you - I come to you. No need to worry about managing feed and sleep times. Our session happens in the comfort of your own home. 3. If bub is really unsettled…
Oh lady, I feel your pain. My bubs NEVER wanted to be put down. They were either cuddled up in my arms, or I was wearing them, snuggled close in the hug-a-bub (best investment ever). I totally get that some babies just don’t want to be put down. Which is fine. I have done whole newborn sessions where bub was constantly in someones arms. Which is beautiful. Because this is your reality. When you look back on these images in years to come, you will remember how your little one only ever wanted to be held. One day you’ll miss those newborn snuggles.
4. your newborn isn’t so new anymore
Don’t worry. I know how crazy those first few months are. Maybe baby photos weren’t high on your priority list because sometimes just getting through each day is all you’ve got. Don’t stress. We can still get gorgeous images of your not so new newborn. As bubs gets bigger, so does their personality - their gummy smiles and cheeky grins are super cute.
