Short n sweet... with newborn baby Louis

Newborn baby Louis was in a hurry to make his way earth side. This little guy made his way into the world 5 weeks early. He spent a little time in special care nursery, just to make sure everything was ok. I was so pleased to hear that the new special care ward at Gosford Hospital accommodates the parents, so that they can stay with their newborn babies. It is so important in those early days for the new mummy and daddy to be able to spend as much time as possible with their precious newborn.

This little guy still hadn’t reached his due date when we got together for his in home newborn session. And he had so many of those teenie tiny premmie baby features - the little peach fuzz hair covering his body, the skinny little legs, still curled up in froggy pose.

Louis was a little unsettled throughout our session - that just meant lots more cuddle time with mummy and daddy.

Short n sweet... with newborn baby Vaughan

Newborn Photographer Central Coast

Family traditions are a beautiful memory to honour during a new born photography session. Newborn baby Vaughan wore a 40 year old hand knitted jacket, bonnet and booties that his mum and aunty had both worn as babies. It was lovely to hear Brooke and her mum discuss the family friend that had made this delicate outfit. I was amazed that it was still so soft and white after all these years - it all comes down to gentle hand washing, which is almost a lost art in our fast paced society.

Newborn baby Vaughan was fast asleep when arrived for his photo session. His amazing mum Brooke was still getting ready. Vaughan had been unsettled throughout the morning so Brooke did what any new mum would do - she called her own mum for help. I think it is so important that new mums are able to raise a white flag and let people know when they need help. This is especially true for the incredible women like Brooke, who are parenting on their own. Being a parent is a challenging task and having an appropriate support network around to help when things are tough makes life that little bit easier. Brooke’s parents both turned up through the morning to help her out.

Brooke had done a beautiful job decorating Vaughan’s nursery. Elephants and African animals featured in this sweet little room. I had a lovely morning hanging out with this sweet little family.

Short n sweet... with newborn baby Hunter

Newborn Photographer Central Coast

There is something about the arrival of a new baby in the house that makes so many families decide now is the time for major life changes. Whether it is renovations or career changes, so many of my newborn sessions are done while the family is going through big upheavals. When I arrived for Hunter’s newborn photography session, all was calm and peaceful in his family home. You would never have known that his family had only moved into the house a few short weeks before his arrival.

The move up from Sydney is big one - away from friends and support networks that are firmly established. Mum Lauren was grateful for the help of her extended family while in the newborn daze. Her in-laws also live on the central coast, while Lauren’s parents had flown in from their home overseas to be around for the arrival of the newest grandchild. Lauren was also looking forward to starting mothers group as a chance to meet other families with newborns.

Big brother Ace was busy throughout the session - he pushed chairs around with his daddy, they played tennis and little Ace did his best to get into a tub of playdoh while sitting on the white bedspread. Ace was also happy to stop his playing for a kiss and a cuddle with his little brother.

Short n sweet...with the Cross family

Central Coast Family Photography

It was a blustery winter’s day when I went to the Cross family home for their family photography session. We had planned on being outdoors so their preschooler could be running around, the dog could roam free and we would have lots of options for different backdrops. As it turned out the weather was foul. It was freezing, the wind was howling and the rain kept coming and going. Taryn was a little worried about holding the session in her home - they had renovated part of the house (but not all of it) and weren’t sure if there would be enough variety for photos. I reassured her, even if all they did was snuggle on the couch, we would be able to capture a beautiful gallery of images. Of course with a preschooler in the home, there’s not much chance they’ll sit still for an hour. Taryn made the decision to hold the session in her home - best decision ever!!

Their home was so warm and cosy when I walked in, they were gathered in the living room by the warm fireplace. Her preschooler, Olivia, was happily playing with her favourite toys, so my arrival didn’t disrupt from her game. Baby Lucy was happy on the rug with dad. Everyone was relaxed and warm, doing their own thing.

As was expected, it wasn’t long before Olivia wanted to show me around her home. I got to meet her favourite soft toys, see her Elsa bed, check out the pink bathroom (very 80’s and so cool!) and look at the special corner her mum had arranged so the girls could sit quietly together and read. The girls had a snuggle in the cot together and then a rumble on mum and dad’s bed. Who said there wasn’t much to do during an in-home family photography session?!

Short n sweet... with nanny and poppy Ransley

Nanny Carol was given a great present for Christmas - a gift voucher for a photography session with yours truly! These active grandparents spend a lot of time with their adorable grandson Khan, so it was only natural that they wanted to include him in the session too.

Unfortunately when I turned up for their session, little Khan was sick. The poor little guy was struggling with his asthma and just doing it tough. All he wanted was to snuggle in poppy’s arms. And that was perfectly ok, because we got some beautiful photos of the boys together.

Khan was such a little champion - he soldiered on, kicking his footy, playing in his amazing car (with some nifty remote control driving by poppy) and following his dog Dottie around.

Short n sweet... with the Cutcliffe family

I think one of the things I love most about my photography business is being able to document a families journey through the years. This gorgeous family had a maternity session before their youngest was born. I then got to be there for Miss Tegan’s newborn photos. And now they have done another family session together. I love seeing the little changes - Theo is talking so much more, he’s much more confident. And the big changes - Tegan has grown sooo much!!

But what I love most of all is the things that don’t change - this family are so calm, peaceful and affectionate, there’s a lot of love in this small house.

And I may have mentioned once or twice how obsessed I am with Theo’s hair….

Short n sweet... with newborn baby Henry

Central Coast Newborn Photographer

Someone forgot to tell Henry Wilbow how a newborn baby is supposed to behave. This precious little soul is not your average, sleepy newborn. He is bright eyed and super alert watching everyone around him with knowing eyes. He is super strong, lifting his head to scan the room for his big sister and throwing himself around in his daddy’s arms to see what is going on. It’ll be no time at all before this little man is up and after chasing Leni.

Beautiful Henry is so very loved. His big sister Leni dotes on him. She spent lots of time kissing his hands, playing with his toes and checking out his belly button - because they sure a funny looking on a newborn!

I feel so privileged to be able to photograph the Wilbow’s journey with Henry - from gorgeous baby bump in his mummy’s tummy to much loved baby brother.

How to prepare for a newborn photography session (for those who are sleep deprived)

Central Coast Newborn Photographer

natural photos of newborn baby copacabana nsw

Newborn photography sessions are my favourite sessions to be part of. Everyone’s emotions are so raw and their love for this wee baby is so big. I am so honoured to be invited into a families home as they find their feet with a new baby.

Newborns have this amazing ability to totally throw your world upside down. You are totally enraptured by these awesome creatures who take up 100% of your focus and attention.

Which is cool. It’s how it should be.

Until you think about inviting a stranger into your home to take photos of you and your munchkin. Then the anxiety might start to build - you haven’t had more than 3 hours of unbroken sleep in god knows how long. The house looks like a bomb went off and showering may not have been at the top of your priority list in the last 24 hours.

It’s cool. I get it. I’ve been there too. My delightful children would wake every 40 minutes as babies (true story - I plan on getting them back as teenagers!).

Don’t stress if things aren’t perfect. Life is not perfect. Fortunately my focus is only going to be on your new baby, not the state of your home. Just run a brush through your hair, put on some relatively clean clothes and get ready for some snuggle time with your little bundle.

Want a few more tips for preparing for a newborn photography session? Here’s my recommendations….

1.      Make your bed

Sounds too simple, I know. Here’s the thing, snuggling up on your bed is a great place to have photos with your little bundle of joy. Even if the rest of your house is in turmoil, having a clean bed will make a perfect space for a calm and relaxed photo opportunity. Plus anytime you get to lie down is a good thing, right?

2.      Wear something you are comfortable in

You want to look good for your photo session, that’s totally understandable. Remember though, we’re just hanging at home, so your outfit should reflect that. I can almost guarantee that bub will want a feed while I’m there, so make sure you feel comfortable doing so when you make your clothing choices. Avoid large logos or clothing with big writing. Neutral and light colours are good options as they won’t detract from the natural beauty of your baby. You can add colour with jewellery or accessories.

3.      Open the blinds and let in natural light

As a natural light photographer, I love curtains open, blinds up and lots of natural light pouring. The more natural light you let into your home, the more options we have for photo opportunities. Don’t stress if it’s dark or overcast and hold off on using artificial lights (fluro lights are not a photographers friend!), I can work wonders with any available natural light.

That’s it.

Too easy huh?

If you want to book a relaxed newborn photography session in your home on the Central Coast you can do that here.

Short n sweet... with the Francis family

A gift voucher for a newborn baby photography session is one of the most popular reasons people buy gift certificates from me. For the family that already has everything they need, a photography session is the perfect present.

These guys chose to wait, rather than a newborn photography session, they waited until their gorgeous baby girl was 10 months old before they had their session together. Ohh and she was so very lovely. 10 months is a gorgeous age. Little Lexi was so bright and alert. She totally stole my heart with her toothy grin and her constant baby chatter. Plus those blue eyes. Stop it. She was like a doll. Just beautiful. She took delight in everything around her. She was constantly watching her big brother as he tore around the place. She giggled at leaves as they brushed by her. Everything was awesome to little Lexi.

For big brother Luka, everything was an adventure. He explored through the bush. He chased ducks. He found all sorts of interesting looking object along the waters edge. But the thing he loved most of all, was throwing rocks in the water. Big, rocks, little rocks, anything that made a splash.

Brant and Melissa were so chilled out with their little tribe. They happily let the kids lead the way through our session. By engaging their little ones and their natural curiosity to explore, it meant this sweet family had a relaxed, happy afternoon out at the lake, with me along with them to document this moment in their life.

Short n sweet... with newborn baby Remi

Central Coast Newborn Photographer

I arrived to this quiet, peaceful home to find everyone having down time. Newborn baby Remi was so relaxed. She was sleeping when I got there and didn’t fuss when she was brought out to be part of the session. Big sister Ava was having quiet time after a big night at the Taylor Swift concert. So jealous - can’t believe this six year old has been to see Tay Tay and I haven’t managed it yet.

Lucky for us Ava was still in a good mood. This kid has character plus. She is so bold and sassy. Not at all backwards in coming forwards, Ava had us all in stitches. This first born certainly rules the roost. Apparently when Ava found out she was going to be a big sister, she was NOT impressed. She was not interested in having a baby in her home. And she was not afraid to let her mum and dad know. Fortunately, the big sister role has grown on Ava, baby Remi isn’t so bad after all. Ava was very keen to show me baby Remi’s toys, her beautiful nursery, to cuddle with her baby sister either on the couch or in her cot.

There’s a mad footy rivalry in this household. The girls are die hard Souths fans. Dad is the lone Rooster. So of course we had to get the obligatory jersey shot of Ava and her daddy. I may have heard mention that baby Remi has her own jersey too…much to dad’s disgust.

This family was so relaxed throughout the session, they laughed easily and readily, happy in their beautifully renovated home together.
